The hiking trail Mata do Cerejal (Cherry Forest) begins next to the chapels of S. Mateus and Nossa Senhora do Ó, classified as buildings of religious interest, and then proceeds through the main sights of Alcanadas.
Part of the trail passes through an area known as Rede Natura 2000, where it is possible to observe important natural attributes. The middle section of this trek unfolds around the forest itself, an area of vegetation that is diversified and rich in plant and animal species.
While passing through different parts of Alcanadas, you will come across several points of historical importance, such as the entrance to the Barrogeiras Coal Mine, and Polvarinhos (where the blasting powder used in mining was stored).
As the trek continues, you will find a landmark that corresponds to a local legend about Noah's Ark which, according to tales of yore, was stranded on this site.
